Soft Sugar Cookies

1 Cup shortening (Crisco)

2 Cups sugar

2 Eggs

1 Teaspoon vailla

1 Cup buttermilk or sour milk (mix 1 tsp vinegar into 1 C milk)

5 Cups flour

1 Teaspoon baking powder

1 Teaspoon baking soda

1 Teaspoon salt

Mix first 3 ingredients; add vanilla. Add flower and milk alternately.

Batter may still be a little sticky but when you put it on flowered cloth or board, just roll it around in flower before rolling out.

Roll out to about ½” thick.

Bake at 350° for about 10 minutes.

You can sprinkle cookies with sugar and cinnamon before backing or frost after they have cooled. Makes large batch.
